Black Friday Freebies

 Black Friday image from someecards
Couldn't resist posting this funny image!!

If you are one of those brave souls that will be heading out for Black Friday, you might as well know about the freebies available on that big day. MSN posted a full list of Black Friday freebies HERE and below are a few that I think are pretty awesome:

Sam's Club- "As Sam's Club opens its doors at 7 a.m. on Black Friday, it'll be handing its members a free cup of Starbucks holiday blend coffee along with a free Artisan Fresh pastry."

7-Eleven- "Nab a free coffee of any size with the purchase of any size Red Bull (confirmed)."

CVS- "Select drugstore items are free via ExtraBucks, including candy bars, earbuds and more."

Surviving Black Friday - Tips for Survival

surviving Black Friday image from Zazzle dot com

How can you survive Black Friday? Well, my tip would be just to avoid it completely. Think of all the money you will REALLY save! However, I know lots of you will be braving the malls and stores looking for those perfect deals so I decided to round up some of my favorite tips on surviving Black Friday. Here they are:

First off, wear comfortable shoes! I've seen this on several websites.

My big tip - don't bring your purse. All you need is your credit card, your I.D., your car keys and your cell phone. Just put your stuff in your pockets. You shouldn't bring a purse for several reasons- you won't want to keep track of it, you will be able to move faster without it, you don't want to worry about pickpockets and you don't want to accidentally hit someone with it since folks are already going to be on edge.

TheFrisky.com suggests doing your homework! Plan ahead because the scene will be chaotic. Knowing exactly what deals you are after will help you navigate the madness.

Wikihow suggests making sure you have plenty to eat. Plan out your meals for the day and make sure you keep yourself hydrated and fed. Don't want to risk passing out at a store and getting trampled over!

The Examiner suggests NOT going alone! This is important. Not only can having someone with you help you keep your sanity, you will also be able to cover more ground in the stores and safety in numbers is always a bonus.

The Smoking Jacket had two that I really liked. First, don't bring kids. The risk of losing them, them getting hurt, them getting trampled, etc... is just not worth it! The other, don't cut in line!! This should be a well, duh! kind of tip, but just in case you are remotely thinking of doing something that stupid, I repeat DON'T CUT IN LINE! This includes having someone meet you in line. When people have been waiting for hours to get a coveted item that most likely there is a limited quantity of nothing will make them more irate than your friend joining you in the line right before the store opens. Trust me, don't do it!

LifeHack suggests you check the online deals BEFORE Black Friday as some retailers are offering deals just as good if not better than the ones in the stores. They also suggest you using your credit card for Black Friday purchases because "Many credit card companies have much better return protection than stores: a purchase made on your credit card may have guaranteed refund up to 90 days. Credit cards often offer warranty coverage for free on purchases — a much better deal than most of the service contracts offered by stores. Lastly, some cards offer sale price protection. If the price of your purchase is marked down further than the price you paid within a certain time frame, you can get a refund of the difference."

How to Get Cheap and Free Christmas Gifts

Christmas Presents image
Christmas Presents image downloaded from thechristmasfairyfb.com

If you have been a reader of this blog for more than a minute then you know I LOVE free stuff. What you might not know is I also love sharing free stuff. So, last year that is exactly what I did. For Christmas I got a lot of stuff for free and then presented it all together in care packages for my friends and family. I got free video games for my husband, free razors and toiletries for my mom, dad and sister, dirt cheap wine for my father in law, you get the idea.... Here are five tips to get free and deeply discounted gifts for Christmas:

- Swagbucks. I have talked about Swagbucks in the past. Swagbucks is how I got free video games (read about that here), how I got a free Starbucks gift card (read about that here), how I get lots of free Amazon books and more. Basically the way that Swagbucks works is you get rewarded for searching online. When you use it as your search engine you get random awards of bucks that you can use to cash in for gift cards and other things. When you use it to buy stuff from stores you get more bucks to cash in. Read about how to get the most from Swagbucks HERE and if you want to sign up for a free Swagbucks account do so HERE!

- Amazon Daily Deals- Every day and sometimes every hour Amazon discounts select products 50%, 60%, I've even seen them at 90% off the retail price. Check online for your favorite products and/or products you're considering giving for Christmas.

- Groupon, LivingSocial, Creative Loafing, etc... There is nothing wrong in my opinion in buying a deeply discounted gift certificate for someone as a gift. There is also nothing wrong with getting rewarded for it! With Groupon if you refer friends you get Groupon dollars, with Living Social and Creative Loafing if others buy what you bought via your referral link you get the item free. Pair the gift certificate with something or just buy more gift certificates if you feel like.

- Discounted and Free Groceries- If you have a surplus of free and discounted groceries why not make gift baskets? For example, I made an Italian dinner basket with extra spaghetti, sauce and melba toast one year. I got some awesome coupons to save money on wine last year and when I paired that with a buy one get one free deal I got two bottles dirt cheap!

- Rewards at Pharmacies- Last year I got a bunch of freebies at CVS with coupons and then got rewards bucks for my purchases on top of that. I cashed in the rewards bucks for free gifts!

What are your favorite ways to save money on gifts? What's the best deal you have scored? I want to know! Leave a comment below :)

Save the Most Money on Holiday Dinners

Christmas Dinner image
image from terrasavvy.com
Last year I wrote about how I got my Thanksgiving Dinner for free. Check it out HERE!

This year I'm fortunate enough to not be in charge of the whole meal, but I am thinking ahead for Christmas just in case. As I said last year, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation’s annual study the average cost for 10 guests to eat turkey day dinner with all the fixings is $43.47. (Source )

Now, $43 might not seem like that much money, but to me there is no sense paying full price when you can get things cheaper! Here are my tips to save the most money possible on holiday dinners:

- Coupon, coupon, coupon! Before you buy anything for dinner, see if there is a coupon for it! Hot Coupon World Coupon Database has become my favorite go to site to find out if a coupon exists for the items on my shopping list. From what I've seen they are really good at updating the site for new coupons available and often have links to print them directly from your computer.

- Go generic! Often times generic tastes just as good as the original and if you don't have a coupon for the brand name product this can mean a savings of 20-50% per item!

- Don't be afraid of frozen veggies and fruits! Sure, it is nice to have fresh stuff, but when frozen fruits and veggies can be so much cheaper, why not go that route? Check out the prices of both and then make the best decision for your budget.

- Change your meal! You don't have to make the most expensive side dishes in the cookbook. Write down everything you want to fix and then think of possible back up ideas in case your side dish choices are too expensive.

- Make it from scratch! Yes, it's time consuming, but sometimes making stuff from scratch can save you boatloads of cash.

- Look for meal deals. I saw Winn Dixie once had a deal where purchasing a turkey there got you free bread, corn and some other stuff too.

- Go online before you go out. Check the websites for your favorite grocers and see who has the best deals on the items you need. No sense driving all over town to check prices and wasting all that precious gas.

- Hunt for BOGOs. Every grocer I've seen is offering buy one get one free deals on stuffing, corn, gravy, etc... Get one for the holidays and then save the other for another meal. Just because you buy it now doesn't mean you have to use it right away.

- Take advantage of price match offers. Wal-Mart price matches local grocer ads for a lot of products. If you are only wanting to go one place, this might be your best option. Just be aware that Wal-Mart is kind of annoying about coupons sometimes. I also have heard they don't honor BOGO deals...

- Ask for help! There is no need to let anyone know that you are trying to bring down your costs of your meal. Ask folks that are coming to bring side dishes. If anything they will just assume they are helping you save time and they might be grateful for the chance to show off a dish.

I hope this post helps you think of ways to bring your holiday dinner costs down.

My Homemade Christmas Challenge

I know it's only November 10, 2012, and Thanksgiving is not for another couple of weeks, but I'm planning now for Christmas. Yep, you read that correctly! I am planning for Christmas now. Why? Because I've been pinspired by something I found on Pinterest called the Homemade Christmas Challenge. The challenge is to give everyone that you are planning to give a gift to for Christmas something homemade. So, that is exactly what I plan on doing! I'm making my own cards, my own gifts, my own food...

The plan of the challenge is to save money on Christmas while bringing back the good feelings to the holiday that the best gifts come from the heart. Every gift I've decided to make really will be from the heart because the people I'm making things for are all going to receive something designed/made/created with THEM in mind.

For obvious reasons, I can't say what I'm making for my recipients just yet, but I'm hoping to take pics of everything I make and share after Christmas. Looking for your own ideas for homemade gifts? Check out my 12 Crafts of Christmas 2011 . I'll do another set of Crafts for Christmas for 2012 soon too!!
