Darn Near Free Christmas Decorating

Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year and because of this I always try to go above and beyond with decorating my apartment for my husband and me to enjoy. One of my favorite ways to decorate is darn near free! I take Christmas wrapping paper and wrap my frames to look like Christmas presents and hang them back on the wall. It's simple to do and makes the room festive for the holidays. Mix and match colors or make it a coordinated look =)

Getting Free Stuff From Searching Online

As Christmas gets closer we are all running out of time to get as many free things as possible to give as gifts. If you are using Swagbucks to try and get free stuff for Christmas by searching online here is a reposting of my article from a few months ago that might help! If you are new to Swagbucks...check it out anyway to learn how easy it is to get points that get you free stuff =)

How to Get the Most Out of Swagbucks
Getting Rewarded for Searching Online

Swagbucks is becoming all the rage throughout the blogosphere. Freebie hunters everywhere are using it and talking about it every chance they get in order to pump up their referrals and to show off all the free stuff they are getting by using Swagbucks.

At this point, you may be asking yourself, "What is Swagbucks?" Basically Swagbucks is a rewards program that gives you points for searching online. Random search queries throughout the day are rewarded with points and they accumulate in an account. These points can be redeemed for gift cards, t-shirts, magazine subscriptions and so much more.

Searching on Swagbucks is not the only way to get these rewards points. There are several things that can be done to get these precious points. Below is a list of how to get more out of your Swagbucks account and eventually more Swag.

Special Offers- There are several offers in the "special offers" section of the website that reward Swagbucks for purchases, downloads and sometimes just for viewing another website.

Surveys- Fill out a profile and then apply to be apart of the surveys on the site and if you qualify you earn Swagbucks for your answers. There is no limit to how many surveys you can do as long as you qualify for them.

Shop-Stores like iTunes,, Wal-Mart and Petco have links on Swagbucks that reward you for shopping. In order to receive the Swagbucks go to, click Ways to Earn, and select Shop from the column and choose the store you want to shop from. You will be redirected to the store of your choice through a special link that tells Swagbucks how much you are spending and Swagbucks will reward you upon completion of the purchase.

Trade in- Swagbucks rewards you points for trading in video games and consoles and for recycling cell phones and MP3 players.

Daily Polls- Everyday there is a daily poll that asks a random question and Swagbucks rewards you for answering it. If you have a suggestion for a poll send it to Swagbucks and if they use it you'll receive 100 points.

Referrals-You can invite friends through a referral link like this one:

Promote the link via blogs, emails to friends and other websites to get the maximum referrals.

Blog- View the Swagbucks blog a few times a day because they will often put codes within the blog posts that you can enter into the GIMME box on the Swagbucks homepage to get additional points.

Facebook- on the Swagbucks Facebook page there are sometimes codes posted that you can enter into the GIMME box on the Swagbucks homepage to get additional points.

SWidget-On Swagbucks there is a link to put a Widget on your blog or website that can get you additional points as well. There is a button on the Widget that says Swag Codes and when clicked it lets you know if there are additional codes for points available at the time.

Toolbar-Downloading the Swagbucks toolbar can get you points just for having it. When you log onto the internet points will sometimes be added to your account if you have the toolbar.

How I’m Eating Thanksgiving Dinner For Free

One of the biggest problems with big dinners is how expensive they can get. According to the American Farm Bureau Federation’s annual study the average cost for 10 guests to eat turkey day dinner with all the fixings is $43.47. (Source )

This year I have figured out how to fix Thanksgiving dinner completely free! Couponing was the trick. By combining my newfound coupon skills with sales at grocery stores like Publix and pharmacies like CVS I managed to collect all the items necessary for a free Thanksgiving dinner without sacrificing any of my favorite dishes.

The turkey: The main dish for Thanksgiving dinner was free for us. My husband’s company had a free turkey offer for many employees and we were one of the families that got to receive one. Had we not received one our back up plan was to use a combination of coupons with our grocery stores sales to get the turkey with gravy combo packs that you can just heat and eat. Sure, it wouldn’t have been as special, but when you are trying to make a meal this big free you do what you have to in order to get all the flavor without the cost.

Mashed potatoes and gravy: I love mashed potatoes with gravy and it almost seems like a staple for a Thanksgiving dinner at my house. Thanks to coupons in the paper and online we were able to get gravy, instant potatoes and steam and mash potatoes for free. We have the option of cooking either the instant potatoes or putting a little bit more effort by using the steam and mash potatoes. The best part of this decision is neither one costs extra because they were both free.

Green bean casserole: I cannot imagine Thanksgiving without green bean casserole. It is by far one of my favorite dishes of all times. The sad thing is that it can cost up to seven dollars to make. Just one can of the French onions was three dollars at my grocery store. Luckily, I had some coupons that lead me to get some free razors at CVS and then I received extra care bucks to use for a future purchase. The future purchase included my green beans. A sale on vitamins at Publix combined with coupons I had enabled me to get the cream of mushroom soup, milk and French onions for free to make this awesome dish.

Chocolate pie: I have never been big on pumpkin pie. For my family chocolate pie was the most delicious substitute we could come up with. It is so simple to make too. We get a frozen pie crust that we bake according to the directions and fill it with freshly made chocolate pudding. Once the pudding sets put it in the fridge and eat it once it is cold. A sale at Publix combined with coupons I had made this dish free as well.

I also got green peas, macaroni and cheese, corn, baked beans and lots of other items for free. These might not be used for Thanksgiving dinner but they add to the options for side dishes on turkey day.

If candied yams, cranberry sauce and stuffing are what you like there are probably some amazing sales going on for these all year. It is important to find out what your grocery store’s policy is regarding sales and coupons. Combining sales with coupons is what gets you the most groceries for free.

Another trick is to plan ahead. If you are thinking of having everyone over for Christmas dinner, start planning now. Pick up your grocery stores’ sales flyer and see what coupons are available online and in the newspaper. Your meal may not be free, but you can certainly get it up to 50 percent off if you know how to play the bargain game.

Personally I have been collecting stuff for the past few months for Thanksgiving and Christmas. With proper planning it is amazing to see how much stuff you can get for free.

How I Got a Candle & Shirt Darn Near Free

I got this candle and shirt for $0.59. How? Well, Kohl's has this awesome offer that if you sign up for their email alerts they send you a coupon to use in their stores that gives you $5 off any purchase of $5 or more. You can use it on clearance items too! The candle above is normally $7.99 but was on sale for $3.99 and the shirt was marked down to $1.60. Sure, I had to pay some tax in addition to my $0.59 but I think this darn near free shopping trip was hugely successful! There are lots of items that are $5 or less at Kohl's too so your trip could be free. With Christmas around the corner you could stock up on cards (they have some for $0.99!!), ornaments or even...candles!
By the way...the candle I got was cinnamon apple and smells delicious!

The battered economy has taken the stigma out of bargain-hunting. Some might even say that saving a few bucks is in style.

We're not talking about buying nine cups of coffee and getting the 10th free--we're talking about free entertainment, financial advice, health care, technology and more.

Look hard enough and you can find a bevy of 100% discounts, especially online. "Facebook is a great source of freebies right now, as so many brands try to attract fans and establish themselves," says Julia Scott, who runs the popular blog

We went freebie fishing and filled the net. Read on for a sampling.

A word of warning, adds Scott: "There are probably more scams out there than there are legit offers, so it is important to be careful." Her advice: When you see a deal that looks too good to be true, always look for customer service e-mail, telephone number and a promised delivery date. Also look for eligibility requirements (by age or residence) or other exclusions; their absence lends a whiff of impropriety.

Among the legitimate goods you can get gratis:

Financial Services: Tax Preparation

Every year the Internal Revenue Service gathers an army of volunteers to dispense free tax advice and preparation services to the elderly, military personnel and their families, and households making below $49,000 a year. (For more, click here.) Another option: E-mail a question to Turbo Tax before the Jan. 31, 2011, and one of its tax experts will call you back with an answer--free. You only get one question, so make it a good one!

Financial Services: Credit Monitoring

The first step to improving your finances is figuring out where you stand. Get free credit reports once a year from For more consistent checkups, keep daily tabs on your status with Credit Karma.

Health Care: Antibiotics

There is still no cure for the common cold, but for bacterial afflictions, like ear infections, strep throat and severe acne, there are some economically painless remedies. Many pharmacies around the country, including Stop & Shop, Publix and ShopRite, offer free generic antibiotics to anyone with a prescription. Giving away relatively cheap, short-term medicines in hopes of hooking customers on higher-margin items can be good business. Of course, be careful to follow your doctor's directions: Using antibiotics for viral infections, or not taking the whole dose, promotes the development of drug-resistant bacteria.

Culture and Entertainment: College Courses

If you don't care much about getting formal credit for your efforts, some of the best universities--like M.I.T., Carnegie Mellon, Stanford and UC Berkeley--will let you download lectures for free. Check out Academic Earth for a great collection. You won't walk out with a degree, but you will sound a lot smarter at your next dinner party.

Culture and Entertainment: Travel Lodging

People around the world are willing to let you stay in their homes for free. connects weary travelers with open couches. Just decide where you want to go, find some hosts, read their profiles and reviews from people who've stayed with them before, and get in touch. The site forbids any formal commercial transactions, but cooking dinner for your host or cleaning the living room is generally polite and appreciated.

Technology: Ringtones

Myxer offers a wide range of cellphone ringtone downloads--many free--from top artists like Taylor Swift, Lil Wayne and The Temptations. It also has non-music from comedians like Katt Williams, NFL team chants and bird calls. Not happy with prepackaged selections? You can use the software to upload your own songs (and digital wallpaper, for that matter).

Technology: Wi-Fi Access

Keeping up (and killing time) requires more than a good smartphone these days. That's why a growing number of retailers, including Starbucks and Borders, now offer free wireless access over wi-fi networks. For a map of wi-fi hot spots in your neighborhood, check out Wi-Fi-FreeSpot.

Health Care: Gym Access

If you need a week to tone up for that vacation in the Bahamas, check out 24 Hour Fitness' free seven-day membership. (Personal training and fitness classes cost extra.) Warning: Gyms are notoriously relentless when recruiting new members. Expect plenty of annoying follow-up calls. Then again, if you're not working out anywhere, maybe it's time you did.

Culture and Entertainment: Books

Own a Kindle e-reader? is serving up classic prose with no library late fees. Check out Project Gutenberg for more than 33,000 downloadable titles. Most were published before 1923, for copyright reasons, so there is no Robert Ludlum here. Just a lot of Poe, Shakespeare, Dickens and the like.

Culture and Entertainment: Music

You can download music for free off the Internet--and you can also get in a lot of trouble for it. As for some legal strategies to getting your tunes gratis, streaming radio stations like Pandora, Grooveshark and Jango let you tailor stations to suit your taste, while MySpace has an impressive collection of full-length albums you can listen to for free.

Culture and Entertainment: Television

There have been rumblings about Hulu eventually charging for access to its vast library of shows and movies, but the service is still free and likely will remain that way for non-premium content. Crackle provides a large selection of Sony movies you can watch for free. A third option, reminds Julia Scott of "People forget that the networks allow you to watch many shows on their sites."

Free passes to 'Unstoppable'

Tampa Bay Metromix is giving away FREE movie tickets to Unstoppable

Downloaded from for use on

Go HERE for all the details!

what's the catch? More tickets are given away than seats available in the theater. To try for a chance at a seat I recommend being at the theater an hour prior to get in line. I've done this dozens of times throughout the past year and it does get a little annoying sitting around for an hour-but if you bring a book, grab your popcorn early and are willing to talk to other freebie lovers it can be a little more enjoyable. With ticket prices costing $10-12 the hour seems worth it to me!
